The Phenomenological Film Collective‘s first short film,”ILLUMINATE,” will be released by early 2018. “ILLUMINATE” is a cinematic poem which incorporates symbolic imagery to convey what being in the closet feels like for sexual minorities.
Filmmaking will be used to make visible the invisible pain that the closet incites, to disrupt harmful and simplistic assumptions about being in the closet as a sexual minority, and to illustrate the felt experience of the closet in a poignant manner to help citizens gain deeper empathy for the psychological impact of homophobia on human beings, particularly the closeted experience… thereby potentially propelling LGBTQ advocacy and solidarity. The film also seeks to provide hope for viewers watching who are currently struggling with the closeted experience.
